A native of Durham, North Carolina, DeWarren K. Langley is the Executive Director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation. Inc., a non-profit organization that empowers boys and young men of color through a range of programs and services that aid their transition from college to career, improves their academic and professional outcomes, and addresses systemic barriers to academic and professional excellence. He is a highly accomplished higher education and nonprofit professional who specializes in mentoring and high-quality programs that focus on student retention, life design, success, graduation, and employment. He possesses strong data analysis skills that help ensure that the programs and services produce measurable results in student success. He has received numerous awards and honors for his work in improving the college and career success of underserved youth, reducing juvenile delinquency, engaging and empowering youth in local policy making, ending the school-to-prison pipeline, addressing persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color, improving community-police relations, increasing affordable housing, and expanding job readiness training programs.
With a deep commitment to service, Dr. Langley is the First Vice Chair of the Durham Workforce Development Board, Community Member At-Large for the Advisory Board of the Resource for Youth Success & Empowerment (RYSE) Assessment Center, Chair of the Youth Council of the Durham Workforce Development Board, Chair of the Board of Directors for Licensed By Design, Secretary of the Board of Directors for Built2Last Innovation Lab, Inc., Afterschool Advocacy Ambassador for the NC Center for Afterschool Programs, Founding Protector of the Protecting Our Dignity in Education Coalition, Founding Member of the We Are the Ones Coalition, Chair of the Durham Boys of Color Coalition, President of the National INROADS Alumni Association - Triangle Chapter, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the West End Community Foundation, Inc., Academic Tutor for Project FINE Tutorial & Remediation Program, Vice Chair of the Advisory Board for Kid’s Voting Durham, and Chair of the Citizen Capital Improvement Panel for the City of Durham.
