DeWarren K. Langley was elected Chair of the Durham County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC). He serves as the nonprofit representative as the Visionary & Executive Director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, Inc.
As chair, Mr. Langley will lead the Council in its efforts to identify and address the root causes of juvenile crime, and to develop and implement evidence-based strategies for reducing youth involvement in the criminal justice system. He will also work closely with community partners to promote positive youth development and provide young people with the support and opportunities they need to succeed.
"I am honored to have been elected as Chair of the Durham County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, and I am committed to working with members on the Council and with our community partners to make a positive difference in the lives of young people in Durham County," said Mr. Langley. "I will prioritize securing 30% match funding from Durham County Government for programs funded by JCPC, creating a Racial & Ethnic Disparities Committee to collect and analyze school disciplinary and juvenile data to develop data-driven policies, practices, procedures, empirically based solutions and multi-pronged intervention and improvement strategies to reduce racial disparities. and supporting funding for programs that provide mentorship, education and career training and mental health services."
The JCPC is a statutorily authorized advisory council which plans, organizes and evaluates locally-based programs designed to prevent and mitigate juvenile delinquency in Durham County. The Council's mission is to identify and address the root causes of juvenile crime, and to develop and implement evidence-based strategies for reducing youth involvement in delinquency.
JCPC reviews the needs of youth and the resources available to address those need, prioritizing community risk factors, increasing public awareness of the causes of delinquency and strategies to reduce the problems and developing strategies to intervene, respond to, and treat the needs of youth at risk of delinquency.
